Cherry blossoms in Zuishin-in Temple are planted around the main gate and Yakuimon Gate. The pale pink flowers of Somei-Yoshino herald the arrival of spring. In addition, double-flowered cherry trees bloom just behind the monument to Ono no Komachi, creating a beautiful scene that symbolizes Zuishin-in Temple.
There are many historical sites related to Ono no Komachi in the precincts of the temple, such as a make-up well said to have been used by Ono no Komachi and a mound where Fukakusa Shosho buried her love letters. Visitors can immerse themselves in the romance of the Heian period while admiring the cherry blossoms.
Hanezu Dance
On the last Sunday of March, the “H anezu Odori” dance is held. Girls dressed in splash-colored kosode perform a graceful dance in the plum orchard.
This traditional dance is a must-see to celebrate the arrival of spring amid the blooming plum and cherry blossoms.
