The cherry trees along the Biwako Sosui Canal are mainly Someiyoshino cherry trees, and their pale pink flowers line the canal like a tunnel. When the cherry blossoms are in full bloom, the petals of the blossoms are scattered, creating a fantastic scene as if snow is falling.
Vivid yellow rape blossoms bloom at the foot of the cherry blossoms, adding color to the springtime scenery. Enjoy the contrast between the cherry blossoms and rape blossoms as you stroll along the promenade.
How to get there
- Get off at Yamashina Subway Station and walk north for about 10 minutes.
- Get off at Shinomiya Station, Keihan Yamashina Station, or Goryo Station, and walk about 10 minutes north.

The rows of cherry trees along the Biwako Sosui Canal are one of the most beautiful spots in Kyoto, with beautiful contrasts between cherry blossoms and rape blossoms. Strolling along the 4-km promenade, you can fully enjoy the contrast of cherry blossoms in full bloom and rapeseed blossoms.
There are other cherry blossom viewing spots nearby, such as Bishamondō Hall, so you can fully enjoy Kyoto in springtime if you visit them together.
