Characteristics of cherry blossoms at Seimei Shrine
- Famous for its early-blooming Kawazu cherry bloss oms
- A row of cherry trees can be seen on the return bridge, a 5-minute walk from the shrine grounds
- The cherry blossoms are a deep, vivid pink and are beneficial for driving away evil spirits and for bringing good luck.
In particular, the Kawazu-zakura blooming on Ichijo-koronbashi Bridge, popularly called ” Seimei-zakura,” are usually at their best in mid-March. The deep, bright pink blossoms make a spectacular springtime appearance.
Early-blooming Seimei Cherry Blossoms

Characterized by their dark pink flowers, they are the most popular cherry blossom at Seimei Shrine and are known as an early-blooming cherry blossom spot.

Since the best time to view the blossoms changes each year, it is recommended to check the blooming status frequently.
How to access
- Take city bus to Ichijo-Moribashi/Harumyo-jinja-mae and walk shortly.
- Take city bus and get off at Horikawa-Imadegawa, then walk about 2 minutes.
- City Subway ” Imadegawa ” Station alighting, about 12 minutes on foot
- Cab: approx. 20 min. from Kyoto Stn.
