Gion Shidare-zakura (weeping cherry tree)
The symbolic “Gion Shidare-zakura” blooms in the center of the park. The tree is about 100 years old and 12 meters tall, and its majestic appearance is truly breathtaking. The overwhelming presence and graceful branches unique to weeping cherry trees are mesmerizing to behold.
The current Gion Shidare-zakura is the second generation. The first generation was a famous tree over 220 years old, but died in 1947, and the second generation was grown from the seed of the first generation.
