The highlight of the cherry blossoms in Kyoto Gyoen is the weeping cherry tree at the site of the Konoe Residence. These cherry trees are known as the earliest blooming cherry trees in Kyoto, and are at their best in late March. The reflection of the delicate weeping cherry blossoms on the pond is quite magical.
The Izumi cherry trees also bloom early and are at their best at about the same time as the weeping cherry trees at the Konoe Residence Ruins. There are also a variety of late-blooming cherry trees, such as the Mikoromoi and Mikuruma-ganeshi cherry trees, which can be enjoyed until late April.
In addition to someiyoshino cherry trees, the Kyoto Gyoen garden is planted with a variety of cherry trees, including yamazakura and shidarezakura. Therefore, visitors can enjoy cherry blossom viewing over a long period of time, from early bloomers to late bloomers.
