In late February, two Kawazu cherry trees, called Shōgatsu-zakura, are at their best. The vivid New Year’s cherry blossoms in full bloom and the chirping of white-eyes bring a sense of spring to the residential area of Fushimi, Kyoto.
Although small in size, the vivid dark pink petals are impressive. The exact color of the petals of Kawazu-zakura is called “ Koshi-iro” ( reddish purple ).
Rape blossoms are also blooming nearby, providing a contrast of yellow and pink.
