As you enter the temple grounds, you will first see a large weeping cherry tree on the left side. This several hundred year old tree with its magnificent drooping branches is a sight to behold. Further in, large yamazakura trees stand in a row, their pale pink flowers in full bloom.

The Taho-to (pagoda), located in the center of the temple grounds, is also famous for its cherry blossoms. Reddish-brown weeping cherry trees planted around the pagoda color the precincts with bright crimson. Visitors who climb the stairs and look down from the pagoda can enjoy a panoramic view of the city of Kyoto over the cherry blossoms.

Also, Joujakkoji Temple has a moss garden, which creates a fantastic atmosphere with the cherry blossoms. The contrast between the green of the moss and the pink of the cherry blossoms is breathtaking.
