Features and Highlights

  • Spectacular Japanese garden nestled in the mountains
  • The moss-covered stone steps and vermilion-lacquered bridge are atmospheric.
  • A variety of scenery that changes with the seasons

The charm of Hakuryuen is its beautiful scenery that changes with the seasons. In spring, cherry blossoms and azaleas are in full bloom, in summer the garden is dazzling with fresh greenery, and in autumn, the park is decorated with fiery autumn leaves. In winter, snow covers the area, transforming it into another world of tranquility.

The park is dotted with pavilions and bridges, each offering a different view. Among them, “Ryugin-tei ” is located at the entrance of the approach to the park, and its foundation is built on a stone wall in the form of a cairn. The stone wall on top of the pavilion, which has withstood the wind and snow for many years, stands out in the deep snowy landscape, creating a particularly elegant atmosphere.

At the center of Hakuryuen is a vermilion-lacquered taiko bridge. The bridge, which spans a clear stream deep in the mountains, was built with the cooperation of local residents and Shoichi Aono’s family. The vermilion-lacquered bridge viewed from the moss-covered stone steps is an elegant and picturesque sight.
