Features and Highlights

  • The weeping cherry tree, a sister tree of the “Gion-edahare” in Maruyama Park, is in bloom.
  • The weeping cherry tree, about 90 years old, is a youthful and powerful sight

The highlight of the cherry blossoms at Honman-ji Temple is the weeping weeping cherry tree, a sister tree of the “Gion-edahare ” in Maruyama Park. It is hard to believe that the tree is about 90 years old, but it is so young and strong that visitors can admire its magnificent branches.

There are also planted the Benishidare-zakura (weeping cherry) and Yae-zakura (yae-zakura) trees, each of which has its own charm. The precincts of the temple are well maintained, and the cherry blossoms and the sight of the Kori, the main hall, the gate, and the Myoken-gu Shrine are beautiful.
