Features and Highlights
- The approach to the shrine is through a tunnel of cherry blossoms.
- The precincts of the shrine are filled with a wide variety of cherry blossoms.
- Unusual view of the Shinkansen bullet train and cherry blossoms
The highlight of the cherry blossoms at Rokusonoh Shrine is the cherry blossom tunnel that covers the approach to the shrine. When the Someiyoshino cherry trees are in full bloom, a pale pink archway covers overhead, creating a fantastic atmosphere. There are also many late-blooming cherry trees, such as satozakura and utsuginzakura, planted on the temple grounds, so visitors can enjoy the cherry blossoms even after the someiyoshino have finished blooming.
From the Taiko Bridge over Shinryuike Pond in the center of the shrine grounds, visitors can enjoy the tasteful view of cherry tree branches hanging down over the pond. The collaboration of cherry blossoms and lanterns with the shrine’s symbolic peony crest on them is also a must-see.
Furthermore, since the Shinkansen bullet train runs very close to Rokuson-o Shrine, if you are lucky, you can photograph the rare sight of the Shinkansen and the cherry blossoms side by side.
